While I was decorating my room with low ceiling, I found myself short on ideas. I searched the net and I found 7 smart ways to make the walls feel taller and the ceiling feels higher. So, let’s check them out and add style and visual interest to any space. Enjoy and have fun!
- Hang the drapes up high ( the best way is to hang them within a few inches of your ceiling line)
- Keep it Proportional ( try to avoid decors like furniture, floor lamps, bookshelves and other decorations that are taller than average).
- Lighting – pot lights, semi – flush, pendant, chandelier and other lighting designs that hang down from the ceiling can make the room with low ceiling feel more squashed.
- Vertical stripes – The stripes will draw your attention, especially the vertical ones. When your eyes travel up upwards, the walls and the whole space will seem taller and larger.
High Corners – Find some interesting narrow bookshelves, branches, vases and floor lamps and decorate the empty corners. They will make the walls feel higher, because your eyes will travel up, up and up.
Paint – If you have a flat ceiling, then you should definitely paint them the same color as the walls. By blurring the line where the ceiling meets the walls, you will make an illusion of higher ceiling.
Artwork – When you are decorating the walls with artworks, consider pieces that have vertical lines, like abstracts, trees, etc., and avoid the artworks horizontal lines.
